“‘Tell everyone to sit down,’ Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, ‘Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.’ So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves. When the people saw him do this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, ‘Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!’ When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself.” (John 6:10-15, NLT)
5,000+ people listened to You and obeyed You with expectancy. You carried such authority that they ALL cooperated eagerly. What a leader You are.
“Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.”
You are not a God who wastes. You use all resources to bring You glory. When You don’t have enough, You create enough; when You have more than enough, You save it for another purpose.
You could have discarded the pieces that were left because they were dirty (touched), broken, and small (insignificant). Instead You chose to keep them and use them for something more.
You don’t despise the broken pieces of people’s hearts and lives.
“When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself.”
Would it have been wrong for You to be made king? Was it wrong for the people to want to crown You? (Side Note: Where were the disciples? Did they want to make him king too?)
You are the King of kings. You had every right to be made King then and there. But it wasn’t the right time. You still had work to do as an ordinary person. You waited to complete Your mission before You would consider man’s promotion.
Not every opportunity or promotion should be taken.
