Jesus: Prince of Peace

Updated: Dec 10, 2018

Imagine a lake surrounded by a forest. The water is still and calm, steadily quiet. As the wind moves the trees, the reflection on the water changes; but the water itself is as still as ever. Even though storms come, bringing a disruption to the quietness of the waters, when the storm is over, the lake returns to its tranquil state.

This is peace. Regardless of circumstances, a peaceful heart remains steady and unshaken.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end." (Isaiah 9:6-7, NIV)

Jesus is the Prince of Peace, which means He rules over it. He commands it to be. He has established peace as an infinite, unending reality.

Jesus not only has the power to be consistently and eternally at peace, but He is a Peace-Maker and a Peace-Bringer. When the disciples were caught in a storm, Jesus spoke peace into the situation, and the waters stilled.

When we were lost in our sin and at war with God, Jesus came to earth and sacrificed Himself for us, so that we might be at peace with God.

Jesus creates peace with every step He takes. Where He goes, peace follows.

The Prince of Peace lives inside of you. Therefore, you can have peace in every situation; in fact, you can bring peace into chaos. You are a peace-carrier and a peace-maker. The same power of Jesus to calm storms and raise the dead lives within you!

Walk in peace today. Let your heart be still and steady. Receive Jesus’ words to His disciples before His crucifixion:

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27, NIV)

You have a peace that is greater than what you’re going through. Let this peace – the peace that Christ rules over, the peace that lasts forever, the peace that cannot be shaken – rule in your heart (Col. 3:15). It is forever available to you.
